School budgets have taken hard hits around the country these last 4 years! My county is no different. Last week members of our education association gathered "peacefully" in front of our county supervisors meeting to request they fully support and fund the budget our superintendent has proposed. As you can see below, I was showing my support for our school system!
If my county does not fund the school budget we will lose Kindergarten aides, sports teams, and of course another year without a raise! Class size will also increase which means reduction in force!!!

The budget battle is being waged all over. It's sad when school districts become more business-minded than children-minded.
Our school has been asking for money so we can purchase manipulatives, books, and even some updated technology, only to be met with resistance because it "costs too much". Sad stuff :(
Budgets are no fun... I get it. We're constantly being asked to do more with less. My paycheck certainly isn't growing, but at the end of the day it's the kids who are suffering the most. So sad!

Our state is currently in budget negotiations. Currently "slight" education budget increases are proposed, but we're not really holding our breaths.

@Josh Bennett...re: new technology- what irks me about that is that the district has to go through certain vendors and processes. They end up spending 3-4 times as much money on a computer, for instance, than we would spend if we just went to Best Buy and picked one up. There is so much waste that could be avoided and used to save jobs and fund salaries.

Our district is looking for an over-ride. If it doesn't pass 3 teachers at EACH of the four elementary schools will be cut, the foreign language depart at 2 middle schools and a few positions at the high school. The town just voted for an override 2 years ago to build a new library which makes this one doubtful. If it doesn't pass, my current students will be sitting in a room with a total of 40 students. How can all of this be fixed without constantly asking for overrides? What is the answer in today's budget crunch? Who will be able to learn with class sizes near 30 and 40?
